Baby and Dogs almost 2 years later

If you missed the other posts about my kids and getting along you can find them here and here.

So Miss GoGo is almost 2 and the dynamics of my kids have evolved and evolves daily, both forwards and backwards some days. Yes, the dogs are counted in my number of kids!

Shadow-
Oh my Alpha dog. Given that she was a frozen frigged iceberg when Miss GoGo came home you could says she’s thawed out to a frozen land of tundra. She usually doesn’t seek out Miss GoGo’s love and attention, unless food is involved, but she’s lest frosty to her affection. She’s started to tolerate hugs and sniff at her to check on her. When Miss GoGo cries she still looks to me to make sure I hear her and am addressing the issue. Every once in awhile, she will wait for her goodnight hug, I won’t say eagerly, but with the air of don’t forget me and hurry up. Shadow doesn’t allow the sharing of her bed, she gets out when Miss GoGo heads her way. Shadow does us the carseat as a head rest for snoozing on the way home from the dog park. So no, not Pacific Northwest warm, but also not iceberg cold anymore.

Geordi-
He loves her and shows it in his own way. He will tolerate and accept her sharing his dog bed in the office. Even with all the toys and marching the stuffed animals across his back. He’s even fallen asleep with her sitting in his bed playing around him. He also stands up for her at the dog park. She was knocked down by an enthusiastic dog, mastiff brindle mix looking, and she bounced right back up. Didn’t whimper, giggled a little, but bounced back up. The owner was apologizing and I was waving her off, saying she wasn’t hurt and it’s the risk of the dog park for even us big people; I’ve been knocked over by a pack dogs just playing and not looking where they are going. Geordi though, didn’t take so nicely to the behavior. He strutted up to this much bigger dog and growled at him. Hackles up and everything. I explained to the worried owner that Miss GoGo was his, and was just reprimanding the dog for his bad behavior. Shadow all the while was just watching and trying to get N to throw the ball. Once the dog backed down Geordi went back to examining the weeds and tall grass, and we moved on. He’s also taken to greeting her own the stairs and being vocal about the gate needing to get opened if we are slow to open it up.

It’s been a long process with treat rewards, verbal encouragement, and just learning tolerance and teaching Miss GoGo to be nice and gentle. So it can be done, just takes time!

Enjoy!
