Meyer Lemon Drinks

Mmmm… Meyer Lemons…. Mmmm

I found Meyer Lemons several years ago all by accident. It was this strange thing in the lemon/lime area of the store and I picked it up out of curiosity (it’s such a good thing that I am not a cat! I would have died years ago!) and have been hooked ever since! The Team over at The Kitchn have done a great little writeup about the difference between the too incase you don’t know it. Sadly though, it is a very seasonal item and expensive, like $3.50/lb easy, so when my local grocery store had a one day sale of 2 lbs for $3 I picked up 2 lbs.

I love these little lemons. They have great taste to them and are so versatile. You can make Risotto with them, pies, my friend BG loves to make cookies from them, and I really like to drink them. While the other options highlight the flavor profile of the lemon I think it is more pleasant in drinks. Also, Hubby hates lemons so all other options get grumpy response in my house and I end up eating it all and getting fatter.

Here are links to my favorite drinks that use Meyer Lemon’s and do really well highlighting and blending:

Meyer Lemon Margarita– Since I usually make my margarita’s with lemon juice its an easy switch over. If you don’t have the Cointreau (like me 😦 ) a decent sub is Triple Sec.

Lemon-Vanilla Bean Bourbon Smash– Not only does this give me great drink but it also introduced me Vanilla-Bean Simple Syrup. Not sure after tasting this simple syrup that I’ll ever go back to plain simple syrup.

Meyer Lemon Martini- Another one where we just flip the lemon juice source and have a new drink 🙂

Meyer Lemon Whiskey Sour- I’m not sure that Whiskey Sour will ever be my go to drink. But I found it and tried it and didn’t hate it.

Meyer Lemon Old Fashioned- Another one that is decent but probable won’t be a constant go to drink for me.  I know there isn’t a huge difference between this drink and the Bourbon Smash above but I think the quantity of Club Soda and the Simple Syrup vs the whole sugar make the difference.

Yes, I plan on doing more than drinking my 2 pounds but that’s what I did first 🙂

How do you play with these little lemons?

Enjoy!
