Family Day

Why isn’t there a Family Day? We have a Father’s Day, a Mother’s Day, and even a Grandparent’s Day but not a Family Day. Why not? Why do we celebrate the individual roles that make the Family but not the Family itself?

Yes, parents and even grandparents deserve the day to be reminded that they themselves are valued and important, but also so those that look up to them are.. forced.. to be reminded of the leadership and the people that help them survive the days. But why not celebrate the unit itself?

Yes, the argument could be made that everyday is Family Day. At the same point in time the same argument could be used for parents and grandparents. But families need the support and reminder they as a unit are important! All types of family are important and need to be reminded of the importance that they, each person, places to the unit. Let me define the usage of Family.

Family is the unit of people that you pull around you. They are the people that you go to for advice, comfort, laughter, and to just be around. They are not confined by blood or marriage. They are open to those that you encounter and need and change as we progress through life. But they are still important to us as Family. We need to be reminded of that. We need to remind those in our lives that they are wanted, valued, and loved; not just the parents or grandparents. But the siblings, spouses, in laws, and cousins, they are all important to the unit and who we become.

Take a moment today to tell your Family, all it’s parts and people, that you love and value them!
