Where I Needed to Be

I love this quote:

I may not have gone where I intended to go,
But I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
-Douglas Adams

This quote alone rings so many bells in life.

I studied one thing in college (and three little things, yes I am proud of myself) and work in a completly different field! I love my current job though. I can see myself with this company for years, I love the people I work with in the office, and I love my customers (most of the  time at least).

I’ve had to burn a few bridge in life with people that are supposed to mean a great deal to me, but I know deep down inside that it is the best thing for me. Sure, trying to explain that to my inner child on it’s emotional days is hard but I know its best.

I never saw myself in a committed relationship. The role models in my early years weren’t, so I didn’t see what it could be in it’s greatest form. When I finally found someone that I wanted to spend my free time with or even study in the same room with, it caught me off guard. Than my life went through hell and he didn’t leave me; wouldn’t have blamed if he had. That’s when I knew this man was going to be my life partner. Also, he doesn’t let me walk ALL over him and is more than willing to tell me no. Yes, I really do love that about him.

My point is that where I saw myself going growing up and the happiness I have found in adulthood are turning out to be two very different things. The pass along point is don’t look back on where you thought you were going and be sad that you didn’t end up there. Life is about evolution and change. Everyday we learn new things (did you know an Olive is actually a fruit?) and have new experiences that shape the way tomorrow will go. If we hold on to tight to our plans we miss the bigger opportunities.

Don’t be afraid of change. Accept change and flow with it. You never know where it may lead you and what you will discover along the way.

I found my Partner and a job I love all because I wasn’t afraid of change.
