Why the clutter doesn’t bother me

I will be honest, my house is less then perfect. We don’t have bugs or mold in our your house but there are things everywhere. You know, I am okay with and LIKE it (for the most part) like this. My parents not so much. My Mother in Law hates it; it is in stark contrast to her house. My Father in Law he at the very least tolerates in silence. My Hubby, he’s learning (we both are really learning middle ground) to live with it. So why do I like it and dislike clean organized homes (my Mother in Laws house will be the example). Because, it feels and looks lived in. It feels and looks like a home, not just a house.

First, lets agree to what I mean when I say a clean organized house. Think about the homes you see for sell. Everything in its place, picked up, no dust, no dishes, that is my MiL (Mother in Laws) house. My parents house is pretty much the same maybe a little clutter from shopping or mail but the same. Mine, the functional opposite! Shoes, dog toys, mail, papers, books, glasses, and jackets are sometimes scattered through out the house. Not all space is taken up but it looks and feels lived in. So why am I really okay with this?

Because… I am. Because when it’s already less then perfect people are more relaxed and willing to have fun, laugh, and enjoy. Verses worrying about setting things down in the wrong spot of forgetting things. Also, what is being missed in life when you are keeping your house spotless? Sure, pull the kids into and make it a family chore but what is being missed? That unstructured time for laughs, conversations, and being relaxed?

Sure, the argument could be made that I am just trying to justify the clutter of my house. But, I’m not. I like my house the way it is. I like things out of place because it show to those that come in to it and see it that it isn’t my priority. My priority lays in Happiness and Family and a clean house, to me, isn’t either. This doesn’t mean that I don’t clean it at all. I do and it annoys my Hubby because when I do its at like 10pm at night or its over the top neat freak. Also, it takes two to keep the house the way it is. So, if Hubby was really so unhappy with it he could step up and do more; if he did, I would do more or at least match him.

I guess all in all that the point is be Happy with the state of your house. Don’t make your house please others but make it please you. The others stay for a short period and leave, but you live there.
