Shadow the Mommy sitting dog

I have to say that I am just impressed with my dogs but especially Shadow.

Ever since the accident at the beginning of October I haven’t been Me and that is all due the brain injury that I sustained from the accident. My brain was so damaged during the accident that 90% of October is missing from my memories. This includes the accident, (silver-lining: I have no memory of the accident so I have no fears of being in a car), and my 3 year anniversary with the greatest Hubby anyone can have.  But not being Me is the frustrating part because I am having to wait for my brain to heal and to reconnect all the synapses. The best examples I can give you of how I am not Me is the fact that my Logic filter and Emotional filter have yet to beginning fully functioning again 😦 Hubby says I’ve come along ways since the hospital where my personality was not present and I sounded like  a robot. So what does any of this have to do with Shadow you might be asking yourself well here is the answer. When Hubby goes to work during the day or isn’t in the same room as me for long periods of time she is; which is not her normal behavior.

Here’s a few examples:

1) The other morning I left her and Geordi snuggled up on the sofa to go take a shower. I ended up taking an extra long shower because the warm water beating down on my sore back muscles (another accident related injury) felt amazing! When I finally got out I heard Geordi whining at the door to the bedroom. I found not only him but also her at the bedroom door waiting anxiously for me to open the door. Once I’d opened the door Shadow came in to the bedroom laid down where she could see me. Meanwhile, Geordi had returned to the living room and his squeak toy. She also follows me around the house including the kitchen. She doesn’t beg in the kitchen though. She just lays down and goes to sleep while I cook or clean.

2) Hubby has never gone to the dog park with me. He’s one of those guys that would just rather walk them around the neighbor hood and he’s also an introvert 🙂 However, right now with my driving privileges still medically revoked due to injury he’s taking me and the dogs to the dog park. My friend that I walk with at the dog park pointed this out to me actually. Shadow was going further away form me then ever before as long as Hubby  is standing/walking next to me. She was absolutely right!! Shadow is even running interference with dogs that she wasn’t comfortable with being close to me.

I don’t know how she got to be who she is. I can take credit for working with her on somethings but I never trained for these traits, but I LOVE them! I love the fact that she is tuned into me and who I am and is secure enough in the relationship between us to protect me. It just makes me hope that cloning happens before she dies in *fingers crossed* 12 years so that I never have to live without her.

Hug your pet and enjoy!
