Pinterest- Lace T-shirt Scarf

I have to say this is the easiest craft I have ever done. I had this entire thing finished in under an hour.

Supplies:

  • T-shirt. I used an old Old Navy shirt that didn’t fit right anymore. $3 *I think I bought it on sale, if not I have had the shirt for a while so it’s lost its value anyways*You can use any shirt really but this one is soft.
  • Lace of your choice. I bought a yard from Jo-Ann’s of this pretty lace. Down side of my lace is that I didn’t notice that the “top” was pulled tighter then the bottom. $2 *I used about half a year for mine* $4 / yard.
  • Thread of your choice. I used black thread; nothing fancy.

Steps:

  1. Cut arms off of shirt. I kept these just incase something come’s along that they would work well for. Shirt Minus Arms
  2. Cut the area above the armpit off. I haven’t decided if I will keep this or not.
  3. Decided on width. I strongly recommend making it the same width as the lace. Mine started out that way and then got a little shorter so I have this extra length of lace on the bottom of mine.  Once you have that figured out cut it. Now, my shirt material was very thing so I could slice thru both layers no problem. You might to work with your’s differently.
  4. Once cut to desired width cut along one seam to make a ribbon of fabric; so to speak.Final Cut Piece
  5. Cut lace to be about 1/2 the length of the t-shirt piece. This length can vary depending on your own needs and desires.
  6. Pin lace and sew. I used about 1/4 allowance on my piece and used my machine to sew it. My lace didn’t come with that recommendation but, that is what I did and it worked fine for me.Pinned Lace
  7. Trim loose threads and wear! T-shirt lace scarf

Final Cost: $5, or about that much.

Like I said really easy!

Improvement:

  • Next time I plan on picking a slightly thicker fabric. I like this for a summer scarf but I think a thicker fabric will be needed for the rest of spring and fall/winter times.
  • I am going to check the lace better next time to make sure that it doesn’t have this little pull on the “top” end that made sewing it more difficult.

Enjoy!
